Tamarind Juice

Tamarind Juice

Deliciously refreshing sweetly sour tamarind juice with earthy palm sugar and a hint of vanilla with optional addictively chewy tapioca pearls.

This beautiful drink is commonly found in Arabian countries and in the Far East, and really is a deliciously unique drink. Growing up in Saudi Arabia, I remember my parents loving the Arabian version of this drink called Tamar Hindi. It’s basically the same but without the vanilla and instead of palm sugar, normal sugar is used. As kids, my brothers and I really disliked it, and used to call it the “grown ups” drink. Many years later as a full “grown up”, my lovely husband took me away to Bali for my birthday. This was the first time we had left the kids for more than one night and was one of the hardest things I have ever done. Despite being in such a beautiful place, relaxing and being pampered, the constant feeling that a part of me was missing would just not go away. Not surprisingly hubbie and I are not going to be going on any couple holidays any time soon, at least not until the kids are away at Uni!

We only went to Bali for 5 days (I refused to be away from the kids for any longer!), and basically stayed at the most beautiful resort with an incredible spa, and just spent the days being pampered, eating incredible food and just relaxing. Part of this gorgeous pampering included being constantly served a beautifully delicious tamarind juice at the spa before each of our treatments. One of the reasons, other then it being so delightfully refreshing was because of the incredible health benefits of tamarind which includes aiding digestion, boosting your immunity, being beneficial to skin and hair, supporting blood circulation, promoting weight loss and controlling diabetes. It’s basically an amazing superfood which is yet to be discovered in the West, and “grown up” me loved this juice that I despised as a child! Really is amazing how our taste buds change as we grow up. This is my version of the juice we used to drink in Bali and the child in me could not help but add tapioca pearls to this gorgeous drink as the sweet sourness makes them almost sweet like and just so addictively delicious. If you have never tried this “grown up” drink, please do, as its so easy, especially with my Homemade Tamarind Paste, and not only is it so incredibly good for you it is just so fresh and delicious!
