ROSE LEMONADE

ROSE LEMONADE

A sweet floral lemonade that is made with  fragrant rose syrup and sharp tart lemons, resulting in a beautifully refreshing drink.

In Pakistan one of the most popular drinks that you will find is a beautiful red rose syrup drink called Roohafza. The syrup is mixed with water to create the most sweetly flowery drink you will ever have, and in the scorching heat of Pakistan this drink is like refreshing nectar. Sometimes this is served with a squeeze of lemon to cut through the sweet floral notes and is how my family and I love to have this rosey juice.

This ruby red juice used to be one of my highlights of visiting Pakistan as back in the UK you could not find this syrup. However, as times have changed this beautiful rose syrup, Roohafza, is now widely available in all Asian stores in the UK, as well as in some supermarkets and of course online, and so I no longer need to visit Pakistan to have this!

I love experimenting in the kitchen with this sweet syrup as it is very different to rose water as it is not as perfumey and has the most fun colour possible and can turn things like buttercream into the most beautiful fushia pink or red like in this delicious lemonade. Playing on the refreshing flavours of how I like this syrup with some lemon, I decided to try it out in  a more stronger citrusy context like lemonade  and the result was a beautifully delicate lemonade with the softest floral rosey notes balanced against sharp tart lemon, which really is a perfect marriage. This is now the lemonade of choice in my house and coming from a family of lemonade lovers that says something to how beautiful this drink really is!
