OREO DONUTS

OREO DONUTS

Light fluffy donuts oozing with deliciously warm oreo filling and finished off with a dusting of sweet icing sugar. It is hard to imagine something so scrumptiously delicious can be so easy to make. Just a little warning these little moreish donuts are highly addictive, and you will be tempted to make them again and again!

This is a very special recipe for me, as this was the first recipe that I “developed” when I was a teenager and I guess from it stemmed my love for cooking. It quickly became my signature dish and nearly 20 years later it still is one of those dishes that everyone requests I make and for first time triers the look of pure delight after their first bite reinforces why I love cooking. To be able to bring such pleasure to someone is something truly special , and these donuts really do have the ability to make everyone smile with happy yummy thoughts.

The bitter sweet oreo cookie is cushioned by a soft and light donutty pillow and when eaten warm the cream filling of the oreo oozes out in the most  delightful way! Make these ridiculously easy and quick scrummy donuts and put a smile on someone’s face or make some for yourself and smile!

  • 1 cup (130g) plain flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup (125ml) milk
  • 14 – 16 oreos
  • Oil for frying
  • Icing sugar for dusting
Directions
  • Step 1 In a medium sized bowl combine the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.
  • Step 2 Add the egg and milk, and whisk until thoroughly combined and you have a smooth batter.
  • Step 3 Heat enough oil in a pan to fully immerse the donuts.
  • Step 4 Dip one oreo cookie at a time into the batter and straight away put into the oil for frying on a medium low heat for 2 to 3 minutes (donuts become golden very quickly so careful not to burn).
  • Step 5 Once golden and puffed place on some paper towel to drain excess oil.
  • Step 6 Dust with icing sugar and serve immediately as these donuts are best eaten warm.
  • Step 7 Enjoy x
