BANANA FRITTERS (GORENG PISANG)

BANANA FRITTERS (GORENG PISANG)

Delicious Malaysian fritters that are crisp on the outside and beautifully fluffy and soft on the inside with a subtle sweetness and bursting with gorgeous banana. Trust me you will not stop at one!

I always loved Malaysian food but fell even more in love after visiting the beautiful country. It is such an amazingly diverse country that is so rich in culture and food. Malaysians love their food, and as do I and hubbie so it was a match made in heaven for us.

One discovery that I fell in love with were  the many delicious Malay street foods and these beautiful banana fritters were my favourite. They were fried right there in front of you and you would eat them hot. It was just so moreish. Since then I have been trying to recreate them and these are my version which are absolutely delicious.

Perfect as a snack with a cup of tea, especially delicious Malaysian teh tarik tea, or I like to whip them up for breakfasts and brunches or as a delicious dessert with some creamy vanilla ice cream (hubbies favourite option!). These are little bananaey pillows of absolute yumminess and ridiculously easy and quick to make, which I guess is a good thing because if you are anything like me you will be making this A LOT!

Ingredients
  • 1 ½ cups (4 large) bananas, mashed
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 3 ½ tbsp granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (65g) plain flour
  • Oil for frying
Directions
  • Step 1 In a large bowl mix all the ingredients together until fully combined.
  • Step 2 Heat enough oil in a pan to just cover each fritter.
  • Step 3 Dip a tablespoon lightly in some oil and then scoop out a tablespoon of batter and drop straight into the hot oil. The fritter should float up and start to expand. Turn over once it is golden to cook the other side. It takes approximately 2-3 minutes on each side. Cook in batches. Make sure to test one fritter first to make sure it is cooked all the way through and adjust oil temperature and cooking time accordingly.
  • Step 4 Once golden remove and drain on kitchen paper.
  • Step 5 Enjoy x
